Hello Suzette Liptrot.

Jul 16, 2019 The real challenge is to set up iMessage on multiple devices. Chances are you’ll run into some sort of chaos and fiasco at some point. I see this happening quite frequently. There are certain tiny little things to take care while setting up iMessage on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and iPod Touch.

Check to see if iMessage is set up properly on your iPad. Check your internet connection, like Wi-Fi. Sign out then log back in your iMessage. Do a network reset. Ease up the load on your iMessage up and delete some messages. Make sure that your iPad is set to the correct timezone. Update your iMessage to the latest version. Set up later Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. IPad, and Mac users. If you have recently bought a new iPhone and set it up using your Apple ID already, iMessage will already be enabled. On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings Messages, then turn on iMessage. On your Mac, open Messages, then do one of the following: If you’re signing in for the first time, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.

Thanks for bringing your question about the Continuity feature on your iPhone and iPad. I love being able to get my messages on all my devices, so convenient. I am happy to help you get this sorted out today. Setting Up Imessage On Ipad
In order for Continuity to work, in particular with SMS/MMS and iMessage messages, you'll want to follow the instructions below.

Set up SMS and MMS messaging

Use this feature with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that meets the Continuity system requirements. Make sure that your devices are set up as follows:

  • Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • On iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Make sure that the Apple ID at the top of the screen is the same Apple ID that you're using for iMessage on your other devices. Add a check to your phone number and email address, so that you can be reached by iMessage at both. Do the same on your iPad or iPod touch.
  • On iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding, then choose which devices to allow to send and receive text messages from this iPhone. A verification code then appears on each device. Enter that code on your iPhone.
  • On Mac, open Messages, then choose Messages > Preferences. Click Accounts, then select your iMessage account. Make sure that the Apple ID shown here is the same Apple ID that you're using on your other devices. Add a check to your phone number and email address.
